Profile
Maki Takizawa believes that her fascination with natural phenomena, consciousness, and the subconscious plays a vital role in her creative process. While consciousness itself is intangible and cannot be seen as a physical object, it undeniably exists in the human mind, something we recognize and understand.
A creative idea often brings back emotional memories, offering a fresh perspective with unique meaning when recalled. Her work serves as a catalyst for conversations about everyday topics, encouraging deeper reflection and dialogue.
Profile
Maki Takizawa, originally from Tokyo, Japan, began her artistic journey in London, where she spent several years researching and practicing how to express her creative vision through art and design. It was during her time in an art course that she discovered the expressive potential of printmaking techniques. She found printmaking to be an ideal art form, perfectly suited to her vision, and decided to focus her visual development in this medium.
She furthered her artistic growth by earning a BTEC in Fine Art at Kensington and Chelsea College, which helped shape her visual ideas before she pursued a Postgraduate Diploma. Maki then graduated with a Master’s Degree in Fine Art Printmaking from Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Her journey of visual exploration and practical development in printmaking continues to evolve.
Maki Takizawa's career as a printmaker has flourished through numerous exhibitions and competitions. Her work has been showcased in events such as 'The Original' at the Mall Galleries, the Summer MA Show at Camberwell College of Arts, and a solo exhibition at The Green, organized by The Picture Room gallery.
She has also participated in various other activities, including the Open Studio at Creekside Studio, the Annual Competition Show, and an independent group exhibition at Salon des Arts. One of her prints was selected as the cover image for Ofcom's Annual Exhibition and was displayed at their reception event.
In 2011, Maki took part in a group exhibition at LOOP, an initiative founded by Camberwell MA graduates. In 2016, her work was chosen for an exhibition dedicated to etching and intaglio printmaking, established by the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and curated by Norman Ackroyd RA RE.
Since joining LOOP, her work has been regularly exhibited at Bankside Gallery and Espacio Gallery during 2020-2021 in London. The LOOP exhibition has continued its presence at Bankside Gallery since 2022.
